The origin and development history of yoga

The origin of yoga

Yoga originated in ancient India. India is the birthplace of the four major civilizations in the world. Nothing is more shining in this world than yoga. Yoga is the supreme treasure of all mankind, from belief to practice, from body to soul, from appearance to heart, from toe to soul.

There are many sayings about the origin of yoga, but after all, this is the result of the gathering of the ancient people's pursuit of inner peace.

India is the birthplace of Buddhism, so it can be known that in ancient India, people have begun to pursue inner peace, harmony in the world, and wisdom of body and soul.

All beliefs are derived from the most primitive beliefs of mankind, worship and gratitude to the sun and the earth, worship and sacrifice to the mountains and rivers. The development of yoga in India has always been closely related to Brahman Hinduism. Until the birth of Hatha Yoga in the 16th century, yoga began to benefit the world and everyone.

The origin of yoga says:

There are many theories about the origin of yoga, all of which are just similar stories. The true origin of yoga is the pursuit of wisdom, the pursuit of inner peace, and the pursuit of life science.

1 The effect of the beast

According to legend, yoga was an ancient Indian, imitating the sitting posture of a monkey in the Himalayas and began to pursue peace of mind, thus slowly imitating more of the world's nature, animals, and gods, and slowly deriving more yoga poses. This kind of doctrine is more biased towards the process of body and mind. From body to mind, one can practice from the level of mind to spirit.

2 Shiva invented yoga asanas

Shiva is one of the three Hindu gods and is responsible for destroying this world. The creation, maintenance and destruction of this world is the day of the true Brahman Supreme Personality Godhead Krsna. Brahma is responsible for creating this world, and Vishnu is responsible for maintaining this world. , When Shiva dances the dance of destruction, it is when this material world is destroyed. The purpose of yoga practice also includes the pursuit of freedom from samsara. For example, Bhakti Yoga believes that if people can perform their dedication to God well, they can escape from samsara, and they can go to Kui if they are not in the process of creating, maintaining and destroying participants. There is only supreme joy on the planet where the teacher lives.

3 The theory of imitating all things in nature

This theory is certain to hold. For example, there are tree poses and cobra poses in our yoga poses. These poses are imitations of all things in nature. It's like we had the Five-Animal Show in ancient China. But this is definitely an expansion after the emergence of real yoga.

4 Ancient Indian philosophy

Yoga includes not only asnan asana, but also includes philosophy, medical treatment, music, art, religion, sacrifice, sports, spiritual practice and so on. The yoga we practice is mainstream Hatha yoga. The term yoga is Paul Vientiane, such as the book "Yoga Master Earth Theory" by Master Xuanzang, the foundation of Mahayana Buddhism. At the same time, Buddhism has yoga flame mouth rituals. Of course, these are different from our yoga. In other words, it has nothing to do with it.

So what is yoga, and what are the meanings of the word yoga?

The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit word "yug", and the first person who used the Chinese word "yoga" was the Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang.

Yoga in Sanskrit means harmony, unanimity, undifferentiated treatment, the pursuit and practice path of body, mind, and soul. Yoga has always been reflected in the lives and wisdom of ancient Indians in various forms, including the pursuit of physical health, the expectation of peace of mind, and the control of spiritual abilities. But in the true sense, the most complete establishment of yoga comes from AD Patanjali's work "Yoga Sutra" around 300 years ago. Before the Yoga Sutra, the Upanishads had clearly recorded yoga.

The development of yoga

The birth of yoga is documented and has a history of 5,000 years. Of course, many institutions and research scholars in India believe that there is still a gap of 2000 years because there is no written record.

The development of yoga is divided into four stages

1 Pre-classical period

The pre-classical period is considered to be 5000 BC, and yoga began to be conceived and born together. During this period, yoga practitioners practiced in a relatively single way, such as meditation, such as life's penance. At the same time, yoga is also closely related to the faith and religion of India at this time. This period ended in the appearance of "Rigveda".

"Rigveda" is a collection of ancient Indian poems, which records many ancient legends, the humanities and society of ancient India, and the gods of Hinduism.

2 Classical period

There are many ancient books in India, which record the form and pursuit of yoga. During this period, yoga has included various methods of physical, mental, and spiritual practice. In the development of Hinduism, it played multiple religious beliefs. Indispensable status and role. The "Vedas" written in 1500 BC already contains many descriptions of the practice of yoga. The Upanishads truly and clearly record yoga, and the Bhagavad Gita from a religious standpoint explains that yoga is transmitted by the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The only way for the world to practice and escape from reincarnation. Patanjali really condensed many streams of confluence into Ganges culture and wrote the "Yoga Sutra".

3 Post-classical period

The post-classical period was the heyday of the spread and richness of yoga. During this period, Wang Yoga became a compulsory path for Brahman and Hinduism. During this period, eight stages leading to samadhi were determined.

It was also during this period that Ayurveda, mantras, sacrifices, asanas, including art, mythology, music, and understanding of humans and society all laid the foundation for their prosperity.

4 Modern period

In ancient India, as it is now, the caste system is strict, and many people cannot dissolve yoga. Asana yoga is also a part of yoga. This includes women, low castes, and races of different beliefs and colors.

The asana yoga we practice is called Hatha Yoga. The founder of Hatha Yoga is Svata Morumah. Svata Morumma created "The Light of Hatha Yoga". In this book, Svata Moruma It is established that Hatha Yoga includes asanas, breathing methods, cleansing methods, contracting methods and converging methods. At the same time, the birth of "Light of Hatha Yoga" also allows everyone to come into contact with the body's yoga practice.

However, due to the opposition of more traditional practitioners, it did not develop well at the beginning.

It is Krishnamacha who has really carried forward Hatha Yoga in modern times. In Mansor, the modern saint taught Iyengar, and the master of Ashtanga, Patabi Joyce and other modern yoga masters.
